I lived in New Jersey from 1974 to 2005. Frenchtown, Flemington and Princeton became my home after living in France from 1953 to 1974.
Welcome to Historic Flemington Here in beautiful historic Flemington, the county seat of Hunterdon County, you sense a 75thanniversarybook2.jpgspecial quality of life, enjoy small town friendliness, see beautifully restored and preserved architecture, and take pride in a historic district where 60 percent of the buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a borough where people stroll along its streets, where local residents and tourists mingle exchanging smiles and sharing the Victorian atmosphere. Our Main Street has been touted as one of the prettiest in America, lined with shade trees and a fascinating mix of Greek Revival and Victorian buildings.
"Flemington is well known in the world because of the case of the Lindbergh baby which is still part of the American psyche long after it began in Hunterdon County on a cold March night in 1932. The kidnapping and murder of the son of world-famous aviator Charles Lindbergh and the subsequent trial caused a worldwide sensation. It was a terrible story to have to report, the Democrat writers clearly felt. But it was also a local story of international interest. So while the world's attention was focused on Hopewell, from which the first press dispatches emanated about the kidnapping, the Democrat made sure its readers knew that the new home of Col. Charles A. Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh was in East Amwell Township Hunterdon County. Democrat reporters struggled with the rest of the worldwide press to obtain any facts available on the crime, which became more elusive as time went on and the family and authorities became less willing to discuss their investigation."
